Sydney fringe festival 2013 – Arts, Photography, and Daydreaming https://www.soyounfotoarts.com/blog/wordpress Sun, 16 Aug 2020 04:33:43 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.5.8 7 Cardinal Sins https://www.soyounfotoarts.com/blog/wordpress/2013/09/27/7-cardinal-sins/ Fri, 27 Sep 2013 09:50:21 +0000 http://www.soyounfotoarts.com/blog/wordpress/?p=946

This year, I joined in ‘Fringe Arts at the Forum‘ as the part of Sydney Fringe Festival again with new body of photographic work, 7 Cardinal Sins.

One of admirable artists, Hieronymus Bosch’s The Seven Deadly Sins and the Four Last Things presents the eye of God in the centre of the painting, implying that no sins can be hidden. Inspired by the work, I have created performing self-portraits with my own interpretation rather than focusing religious aspects.

: ‘Pride’ as the narcissism and pedantic attitude,

‘Gluttony’ as the desire of beyond the limit of food consumption,

‘Greed’ as the endless thirst of materialism,

 ‘Wrath’ as the out-of-controlled anger,

‘Envy’ as the blindness of jealousy,

‘Lust’ as the oppressed human nature,

‘Sloth’ as the irritating sluggard, which is referenced from the Proverbs: ”As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him”. ‘Sloth’ also as the extreme laziness, which is driven from the Korean folklore about the lazy wife who starved to death because she couldn’t reach her tong to rice cakes on her face that her husband place them on while he was away.

Strolling around the gallery on my invigilation day, I sense the strong feministic concepts from other participating artists’ works with diverse mediums including the book of photographs,  silkscreen printing, sculpture, installation, drawing and painting.
