Emak Bakia! ………Leave me alone!<\/p>\n

This old Baroque language\u00a0expresses the contrasting and coexisting human nature of both tendencies of autonomy and belonging as a social animal. In the Sydney Film Festival film,\u00a0The search for Emak Bakia, <\/em>the\u00a0Spanish documentary film director,\u00a0<\/span>Oskar Alegr\u00eda went to the journey for searching for ‘Emak Bakia’, which is inspired by Man Ray’s short film, called\u00a0<\/span>cin\u00e9po\u00e9me,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Emak Bakia!<\/em>. The both of them appears to share the same\u00a0fascination of this expression.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ray found Emak Bakia first in a epitaph in France and Alegr\u00eda noticed that this epitaph\u00a0of a clown did not have a death date:\u00a0“(The memory of) clown never die.”<\/p>\n

Failed to\u00a0search a house called Emak Bakia in Ray’s film, Alegr\u00eda Instead found the vintage shop with that name. The owner of the shop said that Emak Bakia!\u00a0<\/em>is\u00a0<\/em>one of his favourite films and the\u00a0name was choosing him not chosen by him.<\/p>\n

There was\u00a0the postcard\u00a0written with “Are you behaving yourself?”, when Alegr\u00eda was researching archives of\u00a0 postcards with\u00a0images of buildings. As he couldn’t find the record of any receiver in that era, he\u00a0compared the difficulty to\u00a0shooting the pig’s nightmare.<\/p>\n

The closest trace of scenes\u00a0of Ray’s film was the\u00a0house with\u00a0unique columns.\u00a0Alegr\u00eda was informed that a Romanian princess visited\u00a0the place\u00a0with the same reason one month ago and the house\u00a0is belong to her grandfather.<\/p>\n

The OST was composed by the contemporary musician, who visited the house with another creative cause and collected the sound of the building.<\/p>\n

It\u00a0is interesting to find out that the person who is searching disappearing languages like Baroque language here, still makes a mistake in foreign languages: Korean is mistaken as\u00a0Taiwanese in the letter, which was found at\u00a0Ray’s grave.<\/p>\n

We get lost. On the way of searching the meaning of our lives, we find something new and unexpected.<\/p>\n

What I admire is Man Ray’s challenging and experimental approach to\u00a0create arts like his film Emak Bakia!<\/em>.\u00a0With the same reason, I am inspired by Lee Miller\u00a0who\u00a0developed Solarisation technique together\u00a0as Ray’s life and work partner and who was less\u00a0recognised for her contribution to creative communities as a female artist.<\/p>\n
